Al-Itqan is a children’s maktab in Dagenham. Ten children to a class, taught face to face.

Qur’anic recitation
Correct pronunciation of the Arabic text, starting with each letter and its sound, and building to the articulation points and the full rules of tajweed.

Surahs and duas
The essential chapters for daily prayers and the duas needed in everyday life, learnt by heart with their meanings and sources.

Islamic studies
The essential rules of jurisprudence for the practical forms of worship, what is lawful and unlawful, and Islamic manners and character.

Arabic language
Basic Arabic meanings — numbers, days, months and the meanings of chapters — so children understand what they are saying, and Arabic writing through calligraphy.

Recap and speech practice
Children summarise and explain previous lessons in a self-prepared speech. It shows us how much they have understood, and builds their confidence.

Every member of staff is DBS checked
Staff go through an intensive selection process, and Senior Team Leaders carry out continual observations of lessons.

Ten children per class, no more
We keep numbers low so more time can be spent on each child.

Male and female teachers
Six classes, three for boys and three for girls, with male and female teachers available.

Homework after every lesson
A minimum of thirty minutes a day, signed by a parent and shown to the teacher at the start of every lesson.
Fees
£50per child, per month
Plus a one-off £40 starter pack for each child — every book, all stationery and a bag for the year. Islamic studies books are set by age, so they may need renewing each year.
We prefer a standing order because it saves everyone time, but card and cash are fine too.
